Ambassador Wang Tongqing Meets with Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment Timo Jaatinen

On 22 January, Ambassador Wang Tongqing met with Timo Jaatinen, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment. The two exchanged views on advancing the bilateral cooperation in fields including economy, trade, investment and scientific and technological innovation.

Jaatinen noted that China is an important trade partner of Finland and that the bilateral economic and trade relations have long enjoyed sound and steady development. He pointed out that there had been frequent interactions between the government agencies and business sectors in economic and trade fields between the two countries recently. Jaatinen further emphasized that Finland actively participated in the Sixth China International Import Expo and the Second Global Digital Trade Expo hosted by China, and that the 20th China-Finland Joint Committee Meeting on Scientific and Technological Cooperation and the Fifth China-Finland High-Tech Matchmaking Event had been convened successfully. He noted that Finland looks forward to promoting economic and trade cooperation with China through China-Finland Committee for Innovative Business Cooperation and other platforms.

Ambassador Wang noted that China-Finland relations have enjoyed sound, steady and constructive growth since the two countries established diplomatic ties over seven decades ago. He mentioned that President Xi Jinping and President Niinistö met via video link on January 10 and achieved a series of important consensus. The two heads of state spoke positively of the bilateral practical cooperation in various fields, providing strong political guidance for the future development of China-Finland relations. Ambassador Wang pointed out that the Chinese government is committed to improving China’s business environment and welcomes the operation and investment in China by Finland’s enterprises, whereas China also hopes that Finland could keep fostering favorable environment for China’s enterprises operating in Finland.

Ms. Gui Yun, Counsellor in charge of economic and commercial affairs, attended the meeting.
