On February 13, the Embassy of China in Finland, together with the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism, held a “Happy Chinese New Year” campus event at Kulosaari Secondary School in Helsinki, presenting traditional Chinese culture represented by the Spring Festival culture to Finnish students. Head of School Mr. Lauri Halla and more than 300 students and teachers attended the event.
During the event, artists coming from Beijing delivered splendid performances including martial arts, traditional folk music and Peking Opera water-sleeve dances. They also exhibited intangible cultural heritage items such as shadow puppetry and Beijing embroidery, with a special feature of incorporating the well-known cartoon character Moomin into the interactive shadow puppetry experience. The atmosphere at the event was warm and enthusiastic, with continuous applause throughout. Students and teachers watched the performances attentively, participated in the interactive sessions with great interest, and vigorously tried their hands at shadow puppetry and Beijing embroidery, expressing their wish to visit China in person in the future to further experience the unique charm of the Chinese culture.
