On February 12, 2018, President Xi Jinping sent a message of condolences to President Vladimir Putin of Russia over the crash of a Russian passenger plane.

Xi Jinping expressed in the message of condolences that I was shocked to learn about the crash of a Russian passenger plane that killed all passengers and crew on board. On behalf of the Chinese government and people and in my own name, I would like to offer the deepest condolences to all the victims, as well as extend profound sympathy and sincere condolences to the bereaved families.

On the same day, Premier Li Keqiang also sent a message of condolences to Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev of Russia in this regard.
